Step By Step Mode
Preparing Chickpeas

  1. Take 1 cup of chickpeas in a bowl.
  2. Add enough water and soak for about 8 hours or overnight.
  3. Transfer the soaked chickpeas to a pressure cooker.
  4. Add 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder, salt, cloves, bay leaf, and enough water to immerse the chickpeas.
  5. Mix well, close the pressure cooker, and cook for about 4 whistles on medium flame.

Preparing Spice mix

  1. In a deep pot, add 2 tbsp ghee and 2 tbsp oil.
  2. Add 1 bay leaf, 1 inch cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, 2 cardamom pods, 1/2 tbsp fennel seeds and 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds.
  3. Once the spices release their aroma, and sliced onions and slit green chillies.
  4. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  5. Add fresh 2 tbsp of ginger-garlic paste and mix well.
  6. Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute until they become mushy.
  7. Add salt to taste, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and chana masala powder.
  8. Mix everything well until combined.

Adding Chickpeas and Rice

  1. Add cooked chickpeas along with the water. Mix well.
  2. Add fresh mint leaves and coriander leaves. 
  3. Gently add the soaked basmati rice to the pot.
  4. Mix gently without breaking the rice grains.
  5. Add 2 cups of hot water and mix well.
  6. Close the pot, reduce the flame to medium-low, and cook for about 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
